ISTANBUL BILGI UNIVERSITESI (BILGI)

Project beneficiary partner

Description

Adopting the principle of «Non scholae, sed vitae discimus» (learning not for school but for life), İstanbul Bilgi University (BİLGİ) took place within the Turkish higher education system in 1996.

Istanbul Bilgi University is an internationally oriented university that expands the boundaries of science and art, embraces freedom, takes a lead in the development of society, provides a place where students and faculty share a passion for learning, and where all members, both academic and administrative, dedicate themselves to this end.

Istanbul Bilgi University’s research policy is based on an understanding of producing cutting-edge work in a wide range of fields and disciplines. BİLGİ believes that good research is supported by appropriate ethical, legal, and professional frameworks, obligations, and standards, a culture of integrity and good governance, as well as support for the development of researchers.

Research is often carried out using comparative, or contextual approaches to examine and develop wide-ranging areas. The BİLGİ research policy aims to promote interaction between BİLGİ academic members, policymakers, civil society actors, and the international community at local, national, regional and international levels. BİLGİ members and their projects address many of the major challenges that face Turkey and the world, and their objectives are to lead the national and international agenda across the BİLGİ’s disciplinary spectrum and through interdisciplinary initiatives. BİLGİ’s world-leading academics and researchers develop the University’s existing strengths and new lines of intellectual inquiry.

The aim is to find solutions to complex, real-world problems using an interdisciplinary approach. BİLGİ currently has more than 20000 students and more than 60000 alumni, over 1000 academicians; 8 faculties, 3 institutes, 3 vocational schools, and 150+ programs that provide education to its associate, undergraduate, and graduate students.

İstanbul Bilgi University has been entitled to receive WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) accreditation, one of the leading and most significant higher education quality certificates, until 2027. With this document of quality granted as a result of WSCUC’s assessment of many documents and the accreditation process, İstanbul Bilgi University has become the first higher education institution that has been accredited by WSCUC and also the first university that has received an international institutional accreditation in Turkey.
