The 1st HUPEDCARE International Meeting brings together 15 institutions in Cape Verde to advance the humanization of pediatric pain care.
Praia, Cape Verde, July 21, 2025 – During an intense week of work, Cape Verde hosted the 1st HUPEDCARE International Meeting: “Higher Education as a Driver for the Humanization of Pediatric Pain Care,” as part of the Capacity Building in Higher Education project, funded by the European Union.
The event brought together representatives from 15 universities and institutions from Africa, Latin America, and Europe, thus consolidating an international network committed to the common goal of improving the training of future health professionals and ensuring more humane care for children suffering from pain.
Throughout the week, the participating partners held coordination and planning meetings, addressing the project's various work packages and defining the lines of action that will guide its development in the coming months. In addition, technical visits were conducted in Cape Verde, which provided firsthand insight into the local situation and established direct links with professionals and beneficiary communities.
This meeting was especially significant, as it represented the first time that all consortium members met in person. This facilitated a valuable exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge, enriching the strategies to be implemented in each participating region.
The Rector of the University of Cape Verde, José Arlindo Barreto, emphasized in his speech that "the research we do should directly benefit our populations," underscoring the importance of research and international cooperation projects having a tangible impact on people's lives.
The HUPEDCARE project is committed to integrating innovative methodologies and technological tools to transform higher education and, consequently, the way pediatric pain is treated. Its purpose is clear: to contribute to ensuring that no child suffers in silence.
With the celebration of this First International Meeting in Cape Verde, HUPEDCARE takes a decisive step in its mission to humanize pain care in childhood, strengthening international collaboration and laying the foundations for a future in which pediatric healthcare is approached from a more humane, inclusive, and global perspective.
